Anno III (1623) medal of Pope Gregory XV. Obverse: Pope right. Reverse: Bust of Christ; around, BEATI QUI CUSTODIUNT VIAS ("Blessed are they that keep my ways." (Proverbs 8:32)). Beautiful early 19th century strike.

The first Jesuit-trained pope, Gregory reorganized the procedure of papal elections and founded the Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith.
