ROMA RESURGENS: PAPAL MEDALS FROM THE AGE OF THE BAROQUE is the catalog of an exhibition organized by the University of Michigan Museum of Art. Borrowed from rarely seen public and private collections, the 172 medals in the exhibition are fully documented and illustrated (including obverse and reverse views). Written by professors Nathan T. Whitman of the University of Michigan and John L. Varriano of Mt. Holyoke College, the catalog is the most complete and exhaustive study of its kind to date. An introductory essay by Prof. Varriano gives the historical context for the production of papal medals and catalog entries by both Whitman and Varriano combine lucid art historical discussion of each medal's strike and style with a thorough overview of the papal programs represented. The 188-page, soft cover catalog includes full references to the literature, a biographical list of 30 medalists and a selected bibliography. Good condition, cover has absorbed wear with the interior pages tight and clean. U.S. shipping only; international customers please contact me for shipping rates.
