1758 (Rome) Sede Vacante Scudo coin, issued after the death of Pope Benedict XIV and before the election of Clement XIII. Graded NGC AU53. Obverse: Arms of Camerlengo Cardinal Girolamo Colonna, surmounted by papal umbrella, crossed keys, and the Cardinal's Hat. Reverse: Holy Spirit as a radiant dove flying above the clouds; in exergue, the arms of Monsignor D'Elci. Rare. The first papal coin to bear the "SCUDO" inscription.
An example of this coin graded "Vorzuglich" (Extremely Fine, but closer to the American grade About Unc) "with fine patina" sold in 2009 for $2,097.52 (Euro 1300,00 plus 15% auctioneer's fee). PDF link, Kunker auction 154, June 2009, Lot #1839.
