1834, Anno IV, silver Mezzo Scudo (50 Baiocchi) coin. Obverse: Pope Gregory XVI facing right. Reverse: the kneeling Saint Romuald, praying in a desert scene, with a crucifix in his upraised left hand. His staff is leaning against a rock on which is a skull, a symbol of the hermit. In exergue, BAJ. R 50 (the denomination, 50 Baiocchi and "R," the mint mark for Rome). By Niccolo Cerbara. Nice Very Fine condition, with old grey original toning, never cleaned, from a 1940s papal coin collection.
