Official Vatican 1979 silver medal commemorating Pope John Paul II's journey to Poland in 1979. The medal measures 40mm in diameter and is the work of the sculptor Stanislawa Watrobska and was struck by the Rome Mint of the Italian State.
Obverse: the profile of the Pontiff with the inscription: OJCIEC SWIETY JAN PAWEL II. Reverse: A composite group representing Our Lady of Czestochawa with a child in her arm in center; St. Adalbert on the left and St. Stanislaus on the right, with the inscription: PIELGRZYMKA DO POLSKI 1979 -- GNIEZNO, CZESTOCHOWA, KRAKOW. (Pilgrimage to Poland 1979. Gniezno (St. Adalbert); Czestochowa (Our Lady's Sanctuary); Krakow (St. Stanislaus).
First time a Vatican medal struck in a language other than Latin. Toned Uncirculated condition. Includes original plush case.
