2012 Vatican Souvenir Sheet Battle Ponte Milvio

Vatican souvenir sheet commemorating the 1700th anniversary of the Battle of the Milvian Bridge in 312 A.D. A year after the battle, Constantine issued the Edict of Milan which ended three centuries of oppression and persecution of Christians.

The souvenir sheet reproduces a painting by Giulio Romano in the Sala di Costantino of the Vatican Museums, which Pope Leo X first commissioned to Raphael in 1517, who only began to work on it shortly before he died.
